Profiles in Color | Brenda Walker and Kyrah Kimbro (S2 E0)

Two Detroit Renaissance High School seniors (Brenda Walker and Kyrah Kimbro) were selected to produce Season 2 of "Profiles in Color." Working on the web documentary series gave them hands-on experience in the film industry. As producers, their duties ranged from finding interviewees, videographers, editors, locations, scheduling the interviews, conducting the interviews themselves, and handling any necessary paperwork.

Profiles in Color | Lexie “The Hair Diva” Washington (S2 E1)

She lights up the room with her smile, while slaying your hair with her elegant touch. Lexie “The Hair Diva” brought her southern hospitality from the small city of Sanford, NC to Detroit, MI in 2001 and has had accomplishments one after another. She has become the premier stylist for stars from The Clark Sisters and Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence to working for both BET and Oxygen network. Now she is the owner of “Salon Kinki”, with a whopping 14 hairstylists and nail tech stations. She is a hard working, talented, and driven hairstylist.

Profiles in Color | Zay Primo (S2 E2)

Zay Primo was one of the first big social media influencers in the Detroit area. Everywhere you went millennials knew his name. He started out on a popular app called “Vine” with a group “Detroit Elevado”, which featured some other popular public figures such as “Meechonmars” and “Obeydario.” He managed to get a 100,000 Instagram followers and used his popularity and amusing personality to his advantage. Later he discovered his talents for being a videographer. He began filming music videos for local Detroit rappers and built his own video company, “Laced Visuals”. His work got him noticed from other artists in various different states. Zay Primo has gained really big attention for his detailed and insightful work. For example, one of his videos was featured on BET and reposted by The Migos and Chris Brown. A young hustler is the best way to describe him. Interviewing him was unforgettable.

Profiles in Color | John Giovanni (S2 E3)

John Giovanni is a man with a dream and knows the definition of grinding. An inspiring upcoming rapper, John constantly creates opportunities to showcase his work. His environment growing up did not point the way forward. However, he had a determination to make the goals he set for himself come true. John Giovanni differentiates himself from the young rappers around him by using his unique voice to relay a unique message. His mixtape “Patience?” released in 2018 on all platforms, gained him attention for his talent by his peers and record labels. He is only 17 years old and the mentality and determination he has developed is inspiring! Interviewing him was special, we are grateful to be apart of his journey.

Profiles in Color | Jessica Care Moore (S2 E4)

A Detroit native, who defied the odds as a brilliant, articulate poet. Jessica Care Moore’s journey and determination to be unique and original was accomplished through her various successes. She won the legendary competition,“It's Showtime at the Apollo”, a phenomenal five times in a row to having her work featured an exhibit in the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Her poetry has touched the stages of Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the London Institute of Contemporary Arts. She is not only a poet, but an author, activist, and creator of “Black Women Rock.” Naming all of her accomplishments is nearly impossible.
